The Scottish Child Protection system/law is separate and different from that in other countries in the UK.
This office provides tactical and logistical support to state agencies and ngo's across South-East Scotland dealing with all aspects of child abuse and children at risk. We are a public, state-sponsored agency who have responisbility for inter-agency child protection protocols and procedures, audits and standards, public information, inter-agency training, and critical case reviews, including child death reviews. |

On February 22, 2004, during a ceremony organized by the Ministry of Justice and the Nobody's Children Foundation, 2004 was announced the Year of Child Victims of Crime. Moreover, several programs were inaugurated, aimed at protecting children from crime and supporting child victims of crime who participate in legal procedures. These programs include the "Child: Witness with Special Needs" social campaign, organized by the Nobody's Children Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice. One component of this campaign is the conference "Helping Child Victims of Crime", held on October 25-26, 2004, and co-organized by three partners: The Office of the Capital City of Warsaw (Social Policy Bureau), The Ministry of Justice, and the Nobody's Children Foundation. |

The Commission is expected to present in October 2004 a legislative proposal to implement mutual recognition of convictions and on the interconnection of national criminal registers for crimes such as paedophilia, sexual attacks and crimes committed by repeat offenders. By the end of the year, the European Commission will present a White Paper on the issue of a European criminal record. It will also present two legislative proposals, on mutual recognition of convictions and on the interconnection of national criminal registers. |

A Child Abuse Team was established at the Special Objects Unit within the National Criminal Intelligence Service at the Swedish National Investigation Department in November 1995. This was the result of the work executed by a Parliamentary Commission, which was started after the two first major child pornography cases in Sweden in 1992 and -93. |

At the second ASIA-Europe-Meeting (ASEM) Summit in London in April 1998, The Philippines and the United Kingdom presented a joint initiative to promote international co-operation on child welfare. This was taken forward in October at the Lancaster House experts meeting. With reference to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Plan of Action of the 1996 Stockholm Congress it was decided to establish a web based resource centre at the Centre for Europe's Children, to provide information to all those working to combat the sexual exploitation of children.

The Centre for Europe's Children is the Documentation centre for the Council of Europe Programme for Children. This Programme was proposed in the Action Plan of the Second Summit of Heads of State and Governments of member states of the Council of Europe calling for better protection of children.
