Lithuanian Association of telephone emergency services (LATES) is a voluntary -based union of organizations and persons working in the field of psychological aid by telephone. LATES was founded on 4th October 1996. Association unites mental health professionals and trained volunteers working in crisis and suicide intervention. Goals of LATES: 1. Unite telephonic psychological aid services functioning in Lithuania. 2. Execute suicide and psychological crises prevention programs. 3. Help new telephonic psychological aid services in founding. 4. Organize training courses, refresher seminars, scientific and practical conferences for workers of said services. 5. Seek harmony between the ethics governing international telephonic emergency services and the ethics guiding their Lithuanian counterparts, secure conformity among the qualification requirements for Lithuanian and international telephonic emergency services. 6 . Create and use a unified information and statistical data bank. 7. Represent interests of telephonic psychological aid services in state and other interested institutions. 8. Co-operate with allied international and foreign organizations. 9. Organize educational and publishing activities aimed at the promotion of telephonic emergency services, other psychological and social aid, found enterprises necessary to replenish own funds pursuant to procedures established by law. Ethical Code LATES services have adopted a unified Ethical Code of activities and ethics principles which is in accordance with the Ethical Code of other international organizations providing psychological help by telephone. Members At the moment LATES unites 21 services, 11 run by volunteers and 10 run by mental health professionals.
