The National Council for Children
The Tasks of the National Council for Children, Denmark, an interprofessional council to promote and further childrenīs rights and interests in society.

The National Council for Children is an interprofessional council to promote and further children's rights and interests in society. The Council has been set up on the basis of a decision made by the Folketing (the Danish parliament) in 1994 and is financed by public funds. The Council is independent of the government. The National Council for Children is to work towards the promotion and furthering of childrens's rights and interest in all aspects of their life. For example children's development, children's life at school and their leisure activities, children's health, children with special needs and children's legal rights. The tasks of the National Council for Children are the following: · To make visible and to communicate information about children's livingconditions during their childhood and adolescence and especially about situations where children's needs and rights are not satisfied and safeguarded. · To call attention to aspects of the legislation and the administrative practice which infringe children's rights or are a hindrance to favourable livingconditions in childhood and adolescence, to open a debate on topical issues and to make proposals for changes. · To promote and further children's possibilities of participating in the social debate and having an influence on the decisions which are made. The National Council for Children cannot deal with concrete complaint but it may bring general questions up for consideration. The National Council on Children is made up of seven members who have been appointed by the Minister of Social Affairs and private organisations working within areas relating to children, respectively. In its work the Council will have a close dialogue with a network of groups of children. The National Council for Children is a member of The European Network of Ombudsmen for Children (ENOC)
