During the Swedish presidency of the European Union Save the Children Sweden was working to place the rights of the child on the European Union?s agenda.?Unfinished business? is an attempt to survey the situation of children in Central and Eastern European candidate countries in relation to the rights of the child. It is based on information from several sources, primarily the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, NGOs and the EU Commission. The report is a tool for the work in advocating the rights of the child in the enlargement process, which is promoted by Save the Children Alliance, EURONET and our partners in Central and Eastern Europe. Save the Children Sweden call upon EU to focus clearly on the rights of the child and impose more stringent demands for improvements for children when the EU negotiate with the candidate countries.The report was presented at a European conference, ?Build Children?s Europe ? make child rights real in the enlargement process?, organised by Save the Children Sweden in the beginning of May 2001 in Nyköping.
